TEDxHamburg - dreamers prototyping tomorrow

International speakers outline visions at innovation conference in Hamburg

Big ideas and above all lateral thinking are the overriding themes on the tenth anniversary of the TEDxHamburg on June 1, 2019. Ten international speakers will then outline their dreams of genuine projects with potential to make the world a better place under this year’s motto of “Dreamers – Prototyping Tomorrow”.

Of robots, AI, education and water

One of the speakers is Filippo Yakob, co-founder of the Primo Group, who introduces children to the skills of the 21st century through his award-winning global education technology company, for instance, with the coding robot Cubetto. Citizen of the world Kenza Ait Si Abbou Lyadini will highlight the world of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), which she is currently pushing at Deutsche Telekom. And Jesper K. Strange Kjeldsen, Denmark’s Idealist of the Year 2015, will demonstrate that clever ideas do not necessarily need high tech. The co-founder of the Danish water company Postevand (Danish for “tap water”) fills domestic water into eco-friendly FSC cartons to rival imported mineral water in plastic bottles.

Entrepreneurship and future lab

Janina Lin Otto is demonstrating that Hamburg is a good location for implementing clever ideas at this year’s TEDxHamburg. The Hamburg-based businesswoman behind Frau Ultrafrisch believes: “If it has to be fast food, then good fast food.” Her bistro and catering company makes use of regional, homemade foodstuffs. Her Holistic Foundation, which she set up with her husband, Benjamin Otto, in early 2018, is dedicated to creating a better world. One of the foundation’s initiatives has been setting up an education centre for lifelong learning based, in particular, on individual strengths. Another entrepreneur operating from Hamburg is Annekatrin Bruenig, co-founder of artsy-lab – a future and smart citizen laboratory. Her dream is nothing less than improving living conditions for everybody in the world.

Dreams become reality

“The stories told by our TEDx speakers are aimed at encouraging and demonstrating that it is possible, despite all the hurdles, to grow beyond yourself and make your dreams come true,” said Stephan Balzer, CEO of red onion, a communications and ideas agency based in Berlin. The TEDx conference format first hit Germany in 2009. A year later, Balzer was appointed TEDxEuropa ambassador and has been co-organizer of TEDxHamburg since 2016.
